NQcontent Features

NQcontent V3 WCM framework consists of individual yet closely interconnected modules that enable the authoring, publishing, distribution and personalisation of content, as well as the development and deployment of web applications. It also has the ability to extend the system and integrate with third party applications and databases.

NQcontent WCM Core Module

Authoring Interface

  • 100% web-based authoring and administration interface enables managing content and system settings remotely, without physical access to the servers or installation of client-side applications
  • Authoring environment is designed for non-technical users. Under Quickedit Mode, content authors can see and edit their content within the template that content is presented (in-line editing)
  • Context-sensitive menus ensure that most content authoring operations can be performed without screen refreshes, thus ensuring most of the time is spent on editing content, rather than waiting for pages to load
  • Powerful What You See Is What You Get content (WYSIWYG) editor makes using the system as simple as using Microsoft Word. In fact, the WYSIWYG editor is tightly integrated with MS Word so that content can be seamlessly transferred and edited inside Word, but within the style sheets that have been applied to the site design
  • Automated image uploading mechanisms and image editing functionality, enabling resizing and enhancing of images all within the NQcontent authoring environment

Content storage

  • Content is stored and managed in an intuitive tree-based structure, enabling content authors to organise information in such a way that visitors of the site will be able to find it quickly and easily whilst maintaining their orientation
  • The Content-type modeller ensures that each content item is properly described and tagged, and that content is separated from any styles or the site design
  • Re-usable content blocks facilitate the centralised authoring and distribution of content blocks that can be re-used by content authors within their content
  • Re-usable functionality blocks are pre-programmed functionality items that can be re-used across the site as section managers see fit. Examples include search boxes, news listings, event calendars, vacancy lists, marketing messages, banners etc
  • Full-text indexing support enables fast searching and retrieval of content
  • Flexible meta-tagging of content facilitates optimum search engine ranking and compliance with the latest e-Government standards such as the Local Government Category List (LGCL), the Local Government Services List (LGCL) etc

Publishing Module

  • The Template-based web publishing module ensures that content can be presented in a consistent manner throughout the site
  • CSS driven templates ensure consistency with corporate branding guidelines and the ability to re-purpose content.
  • The Content Scheduler module facilitates publishing of content or taking content off-line at pre-determined dates and times, without user intervention
  • Content can be archived manually or automatically. Archived content can be taken off-line or moved to other (archive) sections of the site, where users can search or drilldown old information by topic or date
  • Content Syndication module enables the distribution of content to third parties in a variety of formats including XML or RSS feeds. Content can be imported from third party sources manually or scheduled to run periodically

Content Validity

  • Version control mechanisms ensure accountability and facilitate correction of mistakes as previous versions of a content item can be rolled-back at any point in time
  • Approval workflow processes can be set up so that only approved content is published
  • Active linking is a new technology introduced in NQcontent and ensures all links, internal or external, are actively monitored for validity

Digital Asset Management

  • Store, search and use digital assets from a central asset repository
  • Supports any type of digital asset: images, documents (Word, Excel, PDF), PowerPoint presentations, Flash animations etc
  • Incorporates its own versioning system and check-in/check-out functionality that ensures only one person can work on a document at any one time, and that full revision history is maintained
  • Enables applying security policies and access restrictions to digital assets for both authors and site visitors

Database Connectivity / Forms Management

  • The NQcontent data connector module allows system administrators to connect the system to any data source within the organisation, enabling the management of what would be considered as "external data" in one integrated backoffice
  • Secure access to connected data sources enables users of the system to interact with the data to find, add and edit information
  • The simple Forms management module enables the creation and publishing of online forms through the web based backoffice, without coding
  • Data submitted through online forms can be stored into databases and communicated to the webmaster or appropriate persons within an organisation, via email
  • Direct access to submitted data that is stored in the database can be achieved using the data connector module

Security

  • Group-based security. Privileges are assigned to groups; each user can belong to more than one security group
  • Roles-based security. A user can assume different access rights depending on type of content they are working on
  • LDAP connector for centralised management of users
  • Site security enables locking of the site, in entirety or by section, to certain visitor groups

Connectivity / Integration

  • Running as part of the .NET Framework opens up new possibilities for extending the core CMS features of the system with natively supporting Active Directory for security and single sign on and tighter integration with Microsoft applications such as delivery of web services, usage of ASPX based modules or Web Parts for Microsoft SharePoint Services, integration with ASP.NET AJAX (ATLAS) for delivering next-generation interfaces using reusable ajax components, and more.
  • NQcontent for Coldfusion can be connected and integrated with third party applications thanks to its Open Standards - J2EE architecture.
  • Connectivity can be achieved using various methods such as Web services, XML, SOAP, databases etc

Performance / Scalability / Availability

  • The publishing engine supports full dynamic content publishing, and performance can be enhanced by using one or more of the built-in caching mechanisms such as full page caching, partial caching, personalised caching etc
  • Support for content compression (gzip)
  • System can be broken down into smaller components and across multiple servers. Separate database and application servers can be set up under a clustered environment, ensuring system performance, stability and availability

Application Development and Distribution Framework (ADDF)

The purpose of the Application Development and Distribution Framework is to secure access to, and enable the development and distribution of custom applications with which public visitors, intranet or extranet users interact, with little or no coding.

Such custom applications may be functionally simple, such as the publication of corporate information found in existing databases; or more complex, for example interactive intranets incorporating vacation requests, document management, time tracking etc.

These applications are typically distributed within larger content driven sites and therefore need to be tightly integrated with corporate style guidelines used on the site or intranet.

The framework consists of:

Enhanced data connector module

  • Enables code-free connectivity to data sources
  • Automates record listing, filtering, editing and applying security policies down to the field level
  • Ensures data is displayed within corporate style guidelines

Enhanced Web Forms module

  • Enables building rich data collection forms without coding
  • Web based administration of forms required to add or edit information stored in data tables
  • Automated data insert / update without SQL programming
  • Cross browser compatibility support
  • Automated JavaScript and Server Side validation
  • Easily build multi-step form wizards
  • Support for multilingual forms
  • Forms are displayed within corporate style guidelines

Enhanced Web reporting

  • Enables building advanced record search and listing screens without coding
  • Web-based administration enables developing and securing the display of information on the site or intranet
  • Automates the development of advanced filtering, sorting and paging information
  • Speed optimised for handling millions of records
  • Automated exporting of data in several formats (Excel, PDF, CSV, text, etc.)
  • Data displayed within corporate style guidelines

Personalisation Module

The NQcontent Site Security and Personalisation modules enable securing visitor access to a site as well as targeting personalised content to matching user groups or customisable user profiles.

Site Security

  • Lock the whole site or sections of a site so that access is restricted to logged-in visitors. This can be used to drive subscriber-only sites where prior registration is required before content is displayed
  • Integrated subscription and management backoffice
  • User registration and profile management wizards enable visitors to register and maintain their own personal profile
  • Password reminder wizard ensures lower administration costs as users can retrieve lost passwords through the site

Personalisation

  • Target personalised content to specific visitor groups. Content can be tagged for visitor profile applicability (e.g. for specific age brackets or function such as partner, customer, supplier) during authoring and displayed to users with matching profiles
  • Content categorisation enables tagging content by subject category (e.g. Economic News, Football etc) and allows visitors to pick which subject categories will be displayed when they visit the site
  • Language selector enables visitors to see content in the selected language

Extensibility Modules

NQcontent can be extended with various out-of-the box modules that can be fine-tuned for specific needs.

Content Extensibility

  • Multi-lingual module, enables parallel authoring of content in more than one language. Visitors have the option to select their preferred language
  • Multi-site module enables maintaining more than one sites under the same backoffice, each with its own URL, content and structure. This enables seamless re-purposing of content across all sites

Portal

  • Banner Ad Campaign manager allows the centralised management and scheduling of banner campaigns within a site, as well as impression and click-through ratio reporting
  • Online poll manager enables the collection of customer feedback through online polls that can be individually scheduled and published in various sections of a site
  • Events calendar for centralised event management. A fully configurable module that allows the storage and display of upcoming events, by type, venue, location, interest group etc. Events are displayed using calendars that can be placed anywhere on a site. Additionally, visitors can search and find events that match their specific interests or other criteria

Communication / Marketing

  • Newsletter manager and the Mailing List Manager modules ensure that your content will reach a wider audience by "pushing" updated content to subscribed visitors

E-Business

  • The E-commerce module enables the display of product catalogues, product information pages, shopping cart storage and management, a flexible checkout process wizard that includes shipping costs calculations and connectivity to online credit card verification systems, simplified stock control and integrated product, customer and order processing backoffice
